Frequently Asked Questions
We've heard every question. Here are the five that come up most often — answered directly, without the runaround.
Both products share the same 28-gauge steel core, foam insulation insert, stone-coated surface, Class 4 hail impact rating, CAT-5 wind performance, and limited lifetime warranty. The Pro product adds one specific feature: a fully concealed interlocking fastener system.
On the standard product, fasteners are covered by the panel overlap but not completely hidden. On the Pro, every fastener is located inside the interlocking joint — invisible from any angle, from any distance. The concealed system also creates an additional weather seal at each joint, which adds a structural performance benefit alongside the aesthetic one. For most homes, the standard product is exceptional. For high-value builds and renovations where the finish level matters as much as the performance, the Pro is the right choice.
All three TEK products are designed for HOA approval. The distinction is which profile your HOA recognizes: if your HOA expects shingles, Stone Coated Metal Roofing or Pro is the right product. If your HOA expects or requires a tile profile, Stone Coated Metal Tile is the right choice.
TEK provides a complete HOA documentation package for every project — product photographs formatted for board submission, specification sheets, color references, and a sample approval letter used successfully by TEK homeowners in HOA communities across the country. Your dealer will walk you through the submission process.
Yes. The foam insulation insert is standard on every TEK panel across all three product lines — shingle, Pro, and tile. It is not an upgrade, an option, or an additional layer installed separately.
The foam insert adds R-value to the roof system and absorbs rain impact sound before it can transmit into the roof structure. Both benefits apply equally to all three products.
Yes — and we recommend it. The best way to evaluate any roofing product is to see it in person on a home near yours. Your local TEK authorized dealer can typically identify nearby installed projects and, in many cases, connect you with homeowners willing to share their experience. Request a sample panel at the same time — the in-hand weight and surface quality of a TEK panel tell you things a photograph cannot.
No. All three TEK products — including Stone Coated Metal Tile — install on existing roof structures without structural reinforcement. TEK panels weigh 1.4 pounds per square foot. For comparison, real clay tile weighs 9 to 12 pounds per square foot and often requires structural engineering assessment and reinforcement before installation. Concrete tile weighs 6 to 9 pounds per square foot. TEK eliminates that requirement entirely — and the cost and disruption that come with it.
